In 2016 I was laid off from a job that I loved. I transitioned out of law practice into a role as a law firm professional development director. The position called on a broad range of skills I had developed as an attorney, bar leader, mentor, organizational development and yoga teacher. My work included recruiting, training, program development and coaching. And then it was gone. It was devastating.

I looked for similar roles in other firms and outside of law practice, but had no luck. In late 2016, a friend asked me to serve as his supervising attorney as he returned to active practice following bar discipline. I loved helping him navigate opening a solo practice and to see him doing great work with a growing client base. I realized I could do similar work with others, on my own, and serve the broader legal community and service professionals in other industries.

In December 2016 I opened my coaching practice. Soon, other colleagues (former colleagues, co-workers and opposing counsel no less!) asked me to coach them. With coaching, they each faced and conquered different challenges in their solo and small firm practices. Slowly, my coaching practice grew, developed and changed. I added coaching clients and service options, Professional Development Services and Retreat Facilitation Services. Today, there is room to grow but I am grateful to have a resilient coaching practice with deep ties with and service to the legal community. I love helping lawyers and other service professionals envision and have the work and life they want.
